CBD in your body

CBD in your body

When many people hear “hemp,” “CBD” or “cannabis” they don’t think of how it can positively affect their body. But in reality, there are many remarkable benefits in the compounds (called cannabinoids) found naturally in hemp.

Hemp is not marijuana

All too often hemp is seen as another word for marijuana or cannabis. The truth is that while hemp is a species within the cannabis plant genus, it is indeed quite different from marijuana – and as such, it has a very different cannabinoid profile. Hemp (like all cannabis cultivars) produces cannabinoids – like CBD - with anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties. But it does not have the psychoactive cannabinoid THC – meaning you do not get high off hemp. Lacking THC also means hemp and CBD are completely legal – which is exactly why you’ve probably seen hemp products like protein powder or non-dairy milk on your grocer’s shelves. And indeed why we’re able to ship Aceso to all 50 states and internationally.

Cannabinoids in your body

We bet you didn’t know that your body – and in fact all humans and animals – is currently creating its own cannabinoids within a lesser known but major bodily system called the endocannabinoid system. As a central regulatory system, the endocannabinoid system regulates major functions like appetite, mood and sleep.

While all cannabinoids function similarly, let’s focus on CBD. CBD interacts with receptors on cells of the brain and immune system. Like a key fitting into a lock and opening a door, CBD binds to a receptor on a cell, triggering changes in the cell’s function. These changes may stop the production and release of inflammatory messenger molecules, change activity of certain regions of the brain, and/or change the amount of blood flow to regions of the body – which can produce the effects of dramatically reduced inflammation, relieving pain, relieving gastric distress, stimulating appetite, or reducing anxiety.

So the next time you see a hemp product in your grocery store, or hear about a CBD product online fear not – the product is legal, you won’t get high and in fact there are a lot of benefits that can come from it because of its action on your inflammatory system, your neurological system and your endocannabinoid system.
